I've been fiddling with the template. Everything in the design section shows three columns, various bits selected for the sidebar, sidebar items ordered. Everything saved at each step. Preview shows as just what i want. Republish more times than I can remeber and yet, when I now look, it has three columns, is green. All correct. However, the right sidebar contents persist in showing up on very bottom of blog. Not so in any of the previews. It shows up as three columns, items in both bars. I've never had this problem before.
Something seems to have happened to my template although I've done nothing except the post below. I'll have to investigate but it could be a couple of days. On my Apple, it suddenly seems very squashed from th right hand side. I've fiddled a bit with design but perhaps it's Safari althuogh I haven't changed any settings at all.
My computer has been unable to access the internet for at least a week now. I'm using another computer, my husband's, but it has a really terrible keyboard and his office space is not conducive to surfingthe net. There ws another attempt to connect mine last night but no show.
Darren from the Living Room are celebrating the birth of their first child, Xavier. Congratulations!
I'm pushed for time this morning but that's because I was reading my Sydney Morning Herald in paper format this morning, rather than online as I do on weekdays. Online, I would not have easily seen Darren's picture on page 3 of the paper and an article about blogs and businesses. I had to search on his name to get a link.
Have a look here to read the article itself. Darren is mentioned on page 2 of the article. The updated SMH site now has page numbers to click through, rather than reading right down by scrolling. I find this a nuisance.
Hope to update more later.
I see that Stephen will be closing diary-x at the end of March. Massive drive failure and no data had been backed up since December 2004. He says that he did not realise all backups had been disabled when he disabled a systems backup. I can just imagine how some people feel about that.
I started blogging over there some years ago and had quite a soft spot for it. When I started, it was more of a journal or diary than a blog. I didn't realise then that there was such a thing as a blogging format with multiple entries and date stamps and permalinks all visible. I didn't even know about comments. I moved to BLOGGER but fortunately made my own backup of anything I wanted. BLOGGER had its troubles too so I moved to Typepad, a paid service. Each has had its problems at times.BeneDiction is leaving blogging, perhaps for good. I hope Bene will be back after some rest and recreation but blogging can be hard. I know many people have appreciated bene's blog over the years. I've seen grace and support there and sane commenting on news items too. Bene isn't perfect and has made some slip ups on occasion. Not one of us can claim to never having made a mistake or having spoken out of turn. However Bene has often been on the end of undeserved flak as well and is feeeling spent, cashstrapped and exhausted. It's not something I talk about often but Bene and Dean Peters from blogs4God supported me when I was still running a journal type blog at diary-x. This is some years ago. I and several other bloggers were caught up in the middle of a very nasty mess with another site and threatened with legal action. Bene and I have remained in touch since and seem to often correspond when one or the other is in a tight spot. I've been thankful for the support and encouragement from Bene. I'll be sorry if the blog closed completely. I hope Bene gains refreshment by stepping back, at least for a while.
I just registered at the new blogs4God site . I was originally on Martin Roth's "semi-definitive list of Christian blogs" which metamorphosed into the original blogs4God. I haven't had a good look around at the new site and don't know what to expect.
However, both Dean and BeneDiction were very supportive of me in a nasty mess with lawsuits threatened with another site which involved several of us from blogs4God. While a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then, I've kept the association.
Changes are planned over at blogs4God . Dean Peters is restructuring the blog portal.
Richard at looking back...looking forward seems to have returned. I've been checking in every few days and tried to leave a comment but couldn't a few weeks ago. Comments still are down but it seems as if Richard is back. Welcome.
Spero News has its second edition up now. There are many different articles from all over the world, including one of mine. In one way, there has been a dream introduction for this, with much attention focussed on the death of Pope John Paul and the election of the new pope.
Richard at Connexions has put out a request for publicity for an autograph book of bloggers. He gives an address for snail mail for offerings for his book. A cartoon perhaps or a favourite saying springs to mind for you? Let him know.
I've just added a blogroll. I hope all URLs are correct. If any one sees a mistake or broken link, please let me know via comments.
Welcome to what I hope will be a comfortable home.
I'm not entirely settled in as yet. Painting is done but I could change colours. I'm still shifting some furniture around, but have decided to throw open the doors for visitors, even though not everything is in place yet.
Just a test. I've just signed up for a month's trial of typepad. I am heartily sick of BLOGGER'S hissy fits, dummy spits and lost posts.
